About the event

Willow & Hazel Garden Structures with Jay Davey

One-Day Course | Wednesday 18th March 2026 | 9.30am - 4.00pm

We're thrilled to welcome Willow artisan Jay Davey for this unique, hands-on course exploring the art of creating beautiful and practical garden structures using willow and hazel.

Jay's work is widely recognised, with commissions ranging from award winning Chelsea Flower Show Gardens to private gardens and high profile events. His talent for transforming natural materials into sculptural forms is exceptional - you may have seen his striking woven willow dome atop the Ribbon Tower at Glastonbury Festival, featured on his Instagram: @jaydaveywillow.

On this course, you'll learn how to build your own natural plant supports, gaining the skills and inspiration to create everything from pea frames and bean poles to delphinium cages, peony rings, and even arches and rose domes.

What the Day Includes

Arrival: 9.30am

The day will begin with coffee before gathering for a short introductory talk from Jay. He will walk you through the tools, materials, and techniques used when working with willow and hazel in a garden setting.

Morning Demonstrations

We shall head outside to explore a variety of structures - some already made by Jay, and others will be constructed during demonstrations on the day. You will see different styles, shapes, and construction methods in action, offering plenty of ideas to take back to your own garden. Jay will explain how these supports can be used for a wide range of perennials, helping keep borders tidy, plants healthy, and your garden looking its best throughout the season.

Lunch: 1.00pm

Enjoy a relaxed, seasonal two-course sit-down lunch with time to discuss further and reflect on the morning's demonstrations.

Afternoon Session

After Lunch, there will be further demonstrations and a chance to build a small structure yourself - the perfect opportunity to put your new skills into practice and take home something beautiful and useful.
