GARDEN

Dorset Walled Garden is set in a large chalk downland valley, within an AONB, between Sherborne and Dorchester, in Dorset. Located in the centre of our organic farm, the garden's plans were first laid out by Simon Johnson soon after we arrived in Dorset in 2002.  Simon redesigned the area close to the the house that contained large lambing barns, a food processing yard and an indoor swimming pool.  From this, the framework of the walled garden, the swimming pool courtyard, the orchard and what is now the rose garden behind the house were created.  The gardens were further developed by Isabel and Julian Bannerman in 2011. The Bannermans' brief was to romanticise and soften the garden with their romantic, blousy, characteristic style of planting, with a focus on scent, whilst taking on the large open landscape surrounding the house and garden.  The rose and the rill gardens were newly created by them, incorporating soft oak ballustrading and raised oak beds, with imposing beehive yew topiaries standing tall throughout.

Please email us if you would like to organise a private garden tour, or view our Events page for courses held here throughout the seasons.
