GARDEN TO POTS
SCENTED PELARGONIUM DAY
DESCRIPTION

We have a weakness for scented pelargoniums here and we are keen to share our passion with you. We are often asked which scented pelargoniums we grow, or which we find to be our best and most floriferous ones, along with how we grow, store and feed them. We have, therefore, organised this day to answer all these questions and to teach some relevant skills.
We shall start the day with coffee on arrival and head to the greenhouse for a talk about the different varieties we grow, showing you the differences between them and how we look after them throughout the year. We will give you details of good, reliable sources for these varieties. You will then have the option of a guided walk around the garden, before we stop for a sit-down summer lunch.
In order for you to develop your collection, we will, after lunch, demonstrate how to take cuttings and you will be able to take a cutting away with you in an old terracotta starter pot, to grow on and enjoy. We will also demonstrate how to start the beginnings of a standard pelargonium plant which are just so gorgeous to have and to enjoy indoors. We shall send you home with one that you will have started preparing here, giving you instructions on how to continue in the coming months as they take some time to grow into these fabulous standards.
We shall have some old terracotta pots available to purchase in a selection of sizes (including very large), as pelargoniums look infinitely better in aged pots, but they are increasingly hard to find. We shall also be offering some seasonal cut flowers from the cutting garden.
The day will finish with time for questions, tea and cake before you set off home with the start of a new collection of pelargoniums to cherish.

Numbers will be kept small to ensure an intimate experience at Dorset Walled Garden.
